Money pages can cost readers real money when they are wrong. These are the rules we follow.
Sources we use
- Primary sources first: the banks’ own websites and fee sheets (fogli informativi), Banca d’Italia, the European Central Bank, the Agenzia delle Entrate, Poste Italiane, pagoPA and Italian legislation.
- Official registers for codes: SWIFT/BIC and ABI codes are checked against bank documents, Banca d’Italia registers and more than one independent directory. Where sources disagree, we say so on the page.
- Reputable reporting for news: mergers and takeovers are checked against press releases and established financial media such as ANSA, Il Sole 24 Ore and Reuters.
- Traveller reports, labelled as such: ATM fees charged to foreign cards are not published centrally. Where we rely on traveller reports or travel-money guides, we say so.
How pages are checked
Every page shows a “checked” date. On that date an editor re-read the page against its sources. Bank pages and news-sensitive pages (mergers, fees, holidays) are reviewed at least every three months and whenever a bank announces a change. Each page lists its main sources at the bottom.
What we will not do
- Accept payment from a bank to appear on the site or to be ranked higher.
- Let advertisers see or approve content.
- Publish fees or codes we could not check without saying so.
Corrections
If you find an error, write to us via the contact page. We fix confirmed errors quickly and update the page’s checked date. Significant corrections to codes or fees are noted at the end of the page.
